Description

Editor's Note: On May 13, 2026, the South Carolina Supreme Court overturned Alex Murdaugh’s double murder convictions and granted him a new trial. The court held that Murdaugh was denied the right to a fair trial, including an impartial jury, due to the actions of County Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill. Murdaugh was convicted in March 2023 for killing his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, at the family's estate in 2021. Murdaugh also pleaded guilty to a series of financial crimes in September 2023 and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. "The Trial of Alex Murdaugh" originally aired in August 2023. True crime. Real justice. "48 Hours" investigates the most intriguing crime and justice cases that touch on all areas of the human experience including greed and passion. "48 Hours," which premiered in 1988, has developed a rich history of original reporting and impact journalism that has helped exonerate wrongly convicted people, caused cold cases to be reopened and solved, and along the way changed lives. This is an outrage. Rich people really do have legal privileges. It was obviously a family annihilation like we've seen other rich people do when they're facing losing it all

I live in SC not far from the the Murdaugh murders. It still haunts me that Alex doesn't have any remorse! It is a psycho thing to do.

New trial? You mean Alex Murdaugh won't go up and take the stand this time and testify? It will be whole new trial. Secondly, how will they find jurors who never heard of him????

Would have been so "thoughtful" to have 'at the very least' to have included the STUNNING DEVELOPMENT in the video.
