Description

A US submarine has sunk an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean, destroying it with a torpedo. The attack took place about 40km off the coast of Sri Lanka in international waters. Eighty bodies from the ship were found by rescuers, a Sri Lankan defence official told BBC Sinhala. Another 32 were rescued, according to the Sri Lankan navy. Around 180 people were believed to have been aboard the Iris Dena. The US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth told a news conference that the warship had suffered a “quiet death” despite having “thought it was safe in international waters". He claimed it was "the first sinking of an enemy ship by a torpedo since World War Two". The airstrikes on Iran are continuing. The Israeli military said it has launched more attacks across the Iranian capital Tehran. "The IDF has begun an additional wave of strikes targeting military infrastructure belonging to the Iranian regime across Tehran," the Israel Defense Forces says in a statement. Hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon continue to escalate. Israel has launched more airstikes and told civilians living in a large area of southern Lebanon to leave their homes immediately and move north of the Litani River because of intended military action against Hezbollah. Pete Hegseth’s speeches sound like they were written by ChatGPT. I can’t help but wonder if they were; it would be on brand.

“Quiet death.” Hegseth’s hubris oozes from him. I pray we rediscover our former humility before such pride infects the rest of America. This kind of pride precedes a particularly painful fall.

Sneak attack from an undeclared war on a peacetime flagged ship on training drills in international waters. Worse than Pearl Harbor and General Belgrano.
