Description

In a world first, Lidl is opening a pub just outside Belfast. So how did we get here? The answer lies in a century of complex laws and licensing rules unique to Northern Ireland, with roots stretching all the way back to partition. What seems like an unusual business move is actually the result of decades of legal restrictions around alcohol licensing. In this video we explore the detail and debate around licensing laws in Northern Ireland and ask what it could mean for the future of pubs in the country. It's funny they never see the coalition between the cost of living crisis and the closures of pubs

The surrender principle in Northern Ireland? I thought Ian Paisley told us there would be no surrender... 😉😂

Great reporting but we still don't know if we can drink their £2 bottles of fortified wine at the bar. 6/10

As a Brit who has lived in downtown Toronto for 15 years, we have at least 2 Longos supermarkets that have a Corks bar inside the store. Refreshing!

They used to have a bar at Morrisons in Guiseley in/near Leeds (in/near depends on who you talk to 😂 Some older people are still quite independently minded and hark back to when Aireborough Council used to exist)

Welcome to Schwegman's - the grocery chain in Louisiana which was well known for having a bar in most stores. Not next door, but often near the deli section.

some whole foods stores in the US have on site bars, My local in playa vista LA was in the supermarket, shop then drink, the reverse is not advised.
