Description

Today, more than 1000 pages of documents about Peter Mandelson’s appointment as UK ambassador to the US have been published by the government. Adam, Chris and Joe get together to discuss what the files tell us about Peter Mandelson’s vetting process, his relationship with some of the government’s most senior figures and his thoughts on the Prime Minister’s leadership. Some of the files have been redacted or held back as part of the ongoing criminal investigation into allegations of misconduct in public office by Peter Mandelson. He has repeatedly let it be known that he believes he has not acted criminally, did not act for personal gain and is co-operating with police. Why are we reinforcing the idea that people in government should use Whatsapp and intentionally obscure government comms from the official record. It's totally unacceptable, I don't understand why it's allowed, if it's government business then it should be on the record.

We need deep vetting for all politicians. All politicians need to have criminal record checks. Why are they never held accountable? I would have been sacked in my job. There’s a bigger question here of integrity.

I just found out that Lord Mandelson and I share the same GG Grandfather. I was excited about the connection and a couple months later this news broke. 😖

Stop labelling every piece of BBC output with 'everything you need to know'. It's patronising and arrogant. Do you know everything? Are you in a position to decide the needs of your viewers? We don't even have 'a need to know'. The democratic model with its fourth estate is broken. You are mere entertainers.
