Polish citizen here. Aushwitz was dedicated to extermination of Poles. Birkenau was dedicated for Jews. (Most of them were of Polish nationality) It's kind of disheartening to hear about the tragedy of the latter, Roms and Russians but everyone seems to omit Poles when talking about German Crimes in WWII .

I am Polish, just turned 30, and I went to Auschwitz as part of my school trip when I was 13. This experience shook me to the core. I live in the area near another death camp - Gross-Rosen. I visited that one when I was 15. Still, to this day, I wonder how there are holocaust deniers.

Couple of dozen people from my grandmothers village died in Auschwitz. All Poles.

“Liberated” is a very generous term considering Poland fell under communist rule for another 40+ years.
