I guess I'm getting old because I remember a time when the Oscars were won by films, and actors that people actually liked.

Ben, you totally missed the point of The Substance! The fact that the protagonist goes out partying when she's in the young body is important because her entire problem is that she's led a shallow, meaningless life! That's why she takes the substance in the first place! It's symbolic of how our older selves pay the price for our younger selves' indulgences. The whole movie is a cautionary tale about the dangers of wasting your life chasing praise and pleasure and failing to build anything lasting.

I’m still baffled that people even watch the Oscars these days

The thing about The Substance that I think was missed here is that it's not just the sexism/ageism thing in Hollywood, but also the massive vanity of Demi Moore's character. It's why her younger self immediately goes out and gets the same job she was just fired from for being too old. She wants to relive her celebrity glory days rather than do anything different.

Let’s NOT talk about the Oscar’s. They are irrelevant and worthless. Ignore them.

I stopped watching the Oscars five years ago. I don't go out to movies anymore.

Hollywood has confused social engineering with entertainment, really do not care about almost all the new movies or the actors in them.
