Assessing John Bolton's Indictment Against Trump's Pattern of Prosecutions

Learn why John Bolton's prosecution for retaining defense information appears more substantive than Trump's other politically targeted indictments. Discover crucial distinctions in legal grounds, evidentiary standards, and the inherent double standards involving classified material.

Short Summary

  • The John Bolton indictment shows a clearer legal theory compared to the James and Comey cases.
  • Prosecutors may use Bolton’s omissions in his published book against the detailed notes he retained.
  • The administration is accused of weaponizing the IRS and using incendiary rhetoric to frame political opposition.
  • Lower court rulings temporarily curb the administration’s push to deploy the National Guard against protestors based on labeling opposition as "rebellion."

George Conway analyzes the specifics of the John Bolton indictment concerning retained classified notes and compares this to the Trump administration’s broader legal tactics. The discussion clarifies why Bolton’s possession of detailed diaries, allegedly exceeding the scope of his pre-publication review, presents a tangible legal risk absent in other seemingly vindictive cases. Additionally, the hosts explore how the Chamber of Commerce is challenging steep, potentially unlawful fee hikes on H-1B visas.

Description

George Conway explains to Sarah Longwell how the indictment of John Bolton fits into Donald Trump’s broader pattern of targeting critics — but also why Bolton’s case may have more substance than Trump’s other so-called “revenge prosecutions.” They discuss what makes the Bolton charges different, the double standard around classified information, and how Trump’s effort to label peaceful protests as “rebellion” reveals his authoritarian instincts. Bolton could have spoken out during the impeachment, but he remained silent because he wanted to promote his book. I don't have a lot of sympathy.

If you think "No Kings" is a terrorist slogan, you need to read THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE!

Conway is right. If you charge Bolton, you have to charge Hegseth, he sent military plans and timing to friends and his wife on signal and he sent it to a reporter at the Atlantic!!! That is 1000000 times more aggregious and dangerous than taking home notes for your book to your house. This is so insane!!!

Your Conway song is the best. Thank you, George. Always a pleasure to hear your analysis of the horror of the destruction of America.

If Bolton goes to prison, then TACO must go as well for stealing all the Top Secret Documents when he was a civilian.

I am heading out to the No Kings protest in Brooksville, FL!!! With my homemade sign that I paid for, driving with gas I paid for. No one is paying me to be there! I am going because I LOVE MY COUNTRY and think it’s beyond reproach what Trump is allowing Miller to do to our country.
