Description

For part two of the January 27 edition of The Bulwark Podcast, The New Yorker’s Jason Zengerle joins Tim to discuss Tucker Carlson’s transformation from a media figure into a political player with a frightening vision for America. Was it the neocons or the white nationalists that most shaped Tucker’s views? And how much does JD owe his career to Tucker? They also talk about Stephen Miller’s role in the administration, the backlash to ICE and CBP, and what all of this says about where the right is headed next. Watch part one with Gov. Tim Walz here: https://youtu.be/Sn53Yjt9_gU Show notes: Jason’s new book, “Hated by All the Right People: Tucker Carlson and the Unraveling of the Conservative Mind”: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/808029/hated-by-all-the-right-people-by-jason-zengerle/ Tim’s ‘Take’ with reporter Ben Terris about Trump’s health claims: https://youtu.be/FR1BMD1HPkU To get 6 bottles of wine for $39.99, head to https://NakedWines.com/THEBULWARK and use code THEBULWARK for both the code AND PASSWORD. Can you imagine JD Vance as president and Tucker Carlson as his vice president? God help us all.

Miller works Trump exactly like Putin worked Yeltsen. Or maybe better than.

Tucker got mad that he "had to" make dishonest arguments he didn't believe in on Crossfire (a job he chose to do despite being independently wealthy). Then he got mad at John Stewart for criticizing the dishonest arguments on Crossfire. That pretty much sums up the fundamental character flaw behind the man.

That was really interesting. Also made my skin crawl. There are some truly sick people operating out there.

Tim, I have a suggestion for a future guest: Dutch historian Rutger Bregman. He won Tucker's heart when he called billionaires out on their hypocrisy at Davos a few years ago, but then provoked Tucker into a full-on tantrum shortly afterward by pointing out that he was no better. I think his ideas about "moral ambition" would resonate with you, too--you have already made the life choices he's been urging on people to quit morally compromised "bullsh¡t jobs" and pursue something that would add value to the world.

If Tucker Carlson is the most powerful person on the right, then the GOP is circling the toilet.

Tim: You WERE looking cute. Always. Thanks for expressing the rage that so many of us feel. It's been cathartic. Keep on keeping on... you're keeping us strong.
