I just did a calculation based on what historical data i could find for the gold price and exchange rates (US-Cdn) in 1968 when my home was built. Then, in CDN$ terms, it took about 1160 ounces of gold to buy my house. Then in 2003 when I purchased this home, it was about 720 ounces of gold. And now, based on 3900 US$/ ounce, it takes about 220 ounces to buy this home. So since 1968, my home has been losing ground to gold, or deflating. This is a surprising result!

Real valuation is measured in ounces, not dollars....
