They did explain the power of the badge, it's because it's a talisman he believes in, his belief gives it power.
I’ve also seen a lot of reactors doubt all of the women coming together for a woman that they don’t really like, but I’ve seen it with my own eyes, the power of sisterhood. If you’ve got a bunch of lady strangers together and told them to protect one girl from a bad boyfriend, there’s not a doubt in my mind that all of them would.
I still want the Aunt's house so bad
Aunt Fran is played by Stockard Channing who played Rizzo in the movie Grease. There will be a Practical Magic 2 I'm excited!
45:51 no its because he believes in what it stands for, so its a protective charm
I wish it had made it into the movie, but in the book, the woman at the beginning who pays the aunts for magic does truly regret her choice because the man doesn't just leave his wife, he becomes completely obsessed with her and won't leave her alone for a moment, basically driving her nuts.
I assure you, you don't need a modern lens to call what he did wrong. In the 90s punching her in the face, trying to brand her, and then trying to strangle her was sufficiently bad. We don't need a modern lens for context.
45:38 The badge is a callback to a couple things. In Sally’s childhood spell to create a perfect man, she asked that his favorite shape be a Star. When you see the quick flashback to him as a kid sitting backwards on a horse (something else she wished for) you’ll notice that a decorative Star is on the horse’s leg. It’s also a callback to the discussion he and Sally had in the greenhouse when she was trying to explain “the craft” to him. She referenced his badge and said that it didn’t have the power to stop criminals in their tracks but that it still possessed “power” because he believed it did. This is why it ended up acting like a talisman and wounding Jimmy. It’s also kind of a thought-provoking commentary that “magic” isn’t always about spells or potions, but that you can find it in fairly mundane places and things.
Nicole’s character went through a whole arc: she ran away from her aunts, and by the end she had not only found her way back but was also more at peace with herself, as shown by the dress she’s wearing. Just as Sandra’s character emerged from her grief and rediscovered the ‘woman within’ herself, and can now start her life anew, free from the family curse. And what’s more, the whole town knows about it now, so they don’t have to hide anymore and, for the first time, can truly be and live as they are. Furthermore, the other mothers are now, in theory, part of their coven.
The broom is not for flying it's literally for cleaning. Ask any witch, the broom sweeps the unwanted away, like evil spirits, negative energy, I'll intent etc.
