This film is a masterpiece. I went with my grandfather when I was younger to see this. He's only spoken with me one time about the wars he's been through in his 25 year long career in the military and that was directly after we watched this together. He said, "this film does a great job of showing you what it was like, but it's only part of the chaos we endured". That was all he ever said about it, even when I pressed him before he passed. He said , " I don't think I could ever find the words to say what it was like. You can only share it with those who were there, and even then we don't always have the words for it." He's long passed now, but I'll never forget what he said. It was one of the last things I ever got to do with him.

Although it's very triggering, we love the attention to detail that the creators brought to this. I remember when this came out alot of veterans walked out the theater and couldn't finish the movie.. I've always loved the fact that it was Reiben, the one who bitched the most about the mission, who was literally sitting on top of Ryan to make sure his ass stayed alive.

They mentioned why brothers don't serve together anymore, The Sullivan brothers and The Juneau.

They truly were the greatest, all lived through the great depression, went to war and suffered horrific loss came home and kept their heads down and helped rebuild the world.

No one was ready for that landing scene. Spielberg shot it like a documentary.
