I swear as soon as I saw Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne... I'm like y'all have got to watch "What's Love Got To Do With It?" They killed those roles!!!
I still can’t believe this was John Singleton’s debut film. What a masterpiece
Achara hit the nail on the head: the way the brothers were treated by their mom is probably reflecting how she felt about each child's dad.
RIP John Singleton
Achara keeps saying "go to therapy". That doesn't happen in the hood. And even if people believed in going to be therapy, there's no insurance to pay for therapy. 😢
Fun fact: the reason why Ice Cube made Friday is because he was tired of seeing the hood always being portrayed negatively so he wanted to make a movie that showed the more lighthearted side.
Doughboy made some mistakes but he ALWAYS stood up for his little brother Ricky. Also, it’s so sad that the mom ended up losing both of her sons to gun violence. 😔
Dough being killed was last minute. Singleton said he knew they made the right choice when he heard the premier audience gasping when it’s revealed he dies. POWERFUL.
Ice Cube's character was a good brother and his mother failed to see his potential. Many scenes showed us that he was actually smart and capable, having some form of wisdom. Despite his brother being favored over him, he protected him and despite his mothers lack of love, he loved her. He was such a tragic character.
The dude who actually shoots Ricky literally looks dead behind the eyes. The actor did an awesome job of capturing that “killer instinct”.
