The symbol that Dr. Manhattan puts on his forehead is the hydrogen atom: one proton on the inside and one electron on the outside.
Fun fact. In the opening credits, where they're showing all the old heroes, that one with Night Owl punching the guy with the gun is actually him saving bruce wayne's parents outside of the opera
"You don't seem to understand. I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me!"
A lot of the shots are almost ripped right out of the graphic novel. The aesthetic and filmmaking artistry of this movie is top tier
There's a reason why Ozymandias is always on the list of top comic/graphic novel villains.
Jackie Earle Haley knocked his character out of the park
Fun fact: the whole reason why the comic is a pirate horror story is because Alan Moore figured that people wouldn't read comics about superhero's since there were actual superhero's in the world. It's more than just "filler", it's part of the world-building.
I think the reason I love this film is that you have all different approaches to morality come together represented by the superheroes. You've got nihilism (Dr. Manhattan), you've got the idea that anything good for oneself is good (The Comedian), you've got the vigilante justice (Rorschach), you've got the unrealistic sense of law and order justice (Nite Owl), and you've got the greater good (Ozymandias). They all think they're doing the right thing in their own way. It's a battle of ideology in a sense.
Two details I love about this movie that many seem to miss; First, I love how when Dr. Manhattan narrates his past they show the scene with his dad teaching him how to assemble a watch by telling him "now it's just a question of reassembling the components in the right sequence" right before they show him reassemble himself for the first time after the accident. Second, I love how when Rorschach visits Dan in his home after the Comedian got killed he tells him he's "hiding in plain sight" just for it to be revealed later that Rorschach is the homeless guy who was doing the exact same thing to keep tabs on everyone.
RIP Greg Plitt, the fitness model who was the body double for Dr Manhattan. Died in 2015 after he was struck by a train while shooting a scene.
