Support our work: https://democracynow.org/donate/sm-desc-yt Zohran Mamdani hailed "a new era" for New York on Thursday, promising in his inaugural address to deliver on the ambitious agenda that electrified progressives in the city and saw him defeat the political establishment in both the Democratic primary and the general election last year. Addressing thousands of supporters who braved freezing temperatures to attend the ceremony at City Hall, Mamdani vowed to "govern expansively and audaciously" for residents. "I was elected as a democratic socialist, and I will govern as a democratic socialist. I will not abandon my principles for fear of being deemed radical," he said. Mamdani was sworn in by Vermont independent Senator Bernie Sanders, who also spoke during the ceremony. During the Franklin Delano Roosevelt administration the rich began threatening the President with leaving the country because Franklin Delano Roosevelt increased their taxes. It's important to know that it's the middle of the depression. No jobs. No money. No food. No Social Security. No Medicare. No Medicaid. No Food Stamps. No WIC. No Unemployment Insurance. No State Disability. People freezing while standing in line for a bowl of soup 🍲. Look up FDR speeches. In one of those speeches FDR says to the rich, "I Will Miss Them Very Much." FDR was never afraid of these people. And, he actually went after the rich because FDR knew that They had caused the economic catastrophe of the period. During the depression, in the mist of extreme pain and suffering, Mae West was one of the richest "celebrities" in Hollywood.

He needs to take his safety very seriously. Too many would be assassins in the US.

:13 What elegant coat that the first lady of NYC wore! Perhaps New York City will experience again the aesthetic they once knew in Jacqueline Kennedy.

Thank you for giving me back my faith in our country. I was feeling really hopeless this last year. Sending love from Colorado. Congratulations Mayor Mamdani.
