Addressing thousands of supporters who braved freezing temperatures to attend the ceremony at City Hall, Mamdani vowed to "govern expansively and audaciously" for residents. "I was elected as a democratic socialist, and I will govern as a democratic socialist. I will not abandon my principles for fear of being deemed radical," he said. Mamdani was sworn in by Vermont independent Senator Bernie Sanders, who also spoke during the ceremony. During the Franklin Delano Roosevelt administration the rich began threatening the President with leaving the country because Franklin Delano Roosevelt increased their taxes. It's important to know that it's the middle of the depression. No jobs. No money. No food. No Social Security. No Medicare. No Medicaid. No Food Stamps. No WIC. No Unemployment Insurance. No State Disability. People freezing while standing in line for a bowl of soup 🍲. Look up FDR speeches. In one of those speeches FDR says to the rich, "I Will Miss Them Very Much." FDR was never afraid of these people. And, he actually went after the rich because FDR knew that They had caused the economic catastrophe of the period. During the depression, in the mist of extreme pain and suffering, Mae West was one of the richest "celebrities" in Hollywood.

People in the comments pointing to Musk as inspiration for 'staying capitalist' and not taking 'government handouts' while ignoring that ALL of his businesses are only 'successful' because of government contracts - or being propped up by his other companies that are only successful because of government contracts. It's freaking HILARIOUS. LMFAO.

Thank you for giving me back my faith in our country. I was feeling really hopeless this last year. Sending love from Colorado. Congratulations Mayor Mamdani.

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command the air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she with silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" - The New Colossus, Statue of Liberty, NYC Make us proud Zohran. We will have your back.

Zohran has bars for days. Seriously though, it is so refreshing to have a politican that can message and get his point and purpose across so eloquently and articulately, but also directly and clearly. You can hear, even feel, his sincerity. He may not be able to deliver on all of his campaign promises, but I know it won't be for a lack of trying. He is going to have some very powerful people who will try to undermine all he does, and this includes the White House and current Congress. It just means the people who believe in him and his messaging and his policies, need to hold the elites accountable. Remind them it is the people who gave them their power and as easily as we gave it to them, we can just as easily take it away. So when the elites try to stop Zohran's success and our movement, it will need to be the people who hold the elites success over their heads. We must demand change. It's been a long, long time coming and we're not settling this time. No more status quo. It's time for real progress. Progress for everyone.
