15:10 As a genetics Masters student who works with fruit flies I wanted to add that it's also because fruit flies were the first model organism that we really used, around 100 years worth of science has been done with fruit flies so there's tons of literature and information about them. They're also extremely easy to genetically modify because we've created lines of fruit flies that are susceptible to modification. The reasons the 3 of them said are also true, they have very short generation time, they share a decent amount of disease etc. The main MO of disease research is to use the simplest organism that lets us study the problem, and fruit flies are that for many things although sometimes zebra fish or mice are used for various reasons.
