Is the Geely Galaxy M9 the best 3-row SUV we can't buy? With an 808-mile estimated range and a shocking Geely M9 price, this Chinese EV might just blow away the competition. Let's find out! Appraisal Tool – https://www.edmunds.com/appraisal/ Car Listings – https://www.edmunds.com/new-cars-for-sale/ Ratings and Reviews – https://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/ 00:00 Intro 01:07 What is Geely? 01:47 M9 Powertrain 03:24 The Numbers 04:42 Driving Impressions 07:50 Styling, Interior, & Tech 13:39 Value 14:33 Edmunds' Take We got our hands on the elusive Geely M9, a three-row family SUV built in China and currently unavailable in North America. If you've never heard of it, pay attention, because this luxury SUV is packed with tech that should put every automaker on notice. The Galaxy M9 isn't just a standard Chinese EV; it’s an advanced plug-in hybrid SUV featuring a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine that acts as a generator for its battery pack. Performance-wise, the Geely M9 boasts three electric motors producing a combined 850 horsepower. At our test track, it rocketed from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds — wildly quick for a vehicle weighing nearly 5,800 pounds. But the real jaw-dropper is its range. Geely says this plug-in hybrid can travel 130 miles on electricity alone — more than any PHEV sold in America — and an astonishing 808 miles with a full tank and charged battery. Inside, the cabin rivals the best in class, featuring a massive 30-inch 6K display, ultra-comfortable massaging seats, and even a built-in fridge. The Geely M9 price is perhaps the most shocking part. In China, this fully loaded model goes for around $35,000. While tariffs and other costs would likely see that number skyrocket if this SUV ever arrived in the U.S., Chinese cars like the Geely M9 prove that automakers globally need to step up their game. For now, this forbidden 3-row SUV remains a fascinating glimpse into the future of automotive tech. Been a BMW & Range Rover customer for 30 years here in Dubai, last year bought for me and Family a NIO, ROX 01 and a Denza B8 for the price of a single a Range Rover 😂😂😂... Each of these are better in quality and functionality than a Range Rover or a BMW... China is disrupting auto markets outside USA like there's no tomorrow.... Unbelievable value

Unfortunately, in US market the car manufacturers have gotten so complacent that they are in for a shock.

I need this to come to America so it can really shake the car industry up!

Good to see you finally acknowledging Chinese cars. Come to Mexico where I live and you’ll see dozens of brands. I just test drove a couple Geelys, they are a great value. But their Zeekr brand, a bit more luxury I just saw for first time: outta this world. The US deserves these cars. US mfrs, except for Rivian and maybe Lucid, are asleep at the wheel. They’ll get more competitive or die as happened when Japanese cars came to US.

Some in the comments are saying that this vehicle only achieves 31.4 mpg in range-extender mode. While 31.4 MPG in range-extender mode might not look like a "miracle" next to a compact hybrid, the technical feat here is actually about power-to-mass efficiency. The Galaxy M9 is a 5,770-lb luxury SUV with 850 horsepower. For context, the new 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid targets ~34 MPG, but it only has 330 hp and weighs nearly 1,200 lbs less. Achieving 30+ MPG while moving nearly three tons of SUV with supercar acceleration (0–60 in 4.2s) is class-leading engineering. The real "miracle" is the EREV (Extended Range EV) architecture. By using the engine strictly as a high-efficiency generator, Geely delivers: * 130 miles of pure electric daily commuting. * 880+ miles of total range, completely deleting range anxiety. * Flagship performance at a price point (~$35k in China) that undercuts almost every 3-row HEV in the States. It’s essentially providing the fuel costs of a family hybrid with the soul of a performance SUV. That's a massive shift for the industry!

It seems that you're testing this car for Canadian people, right?

Do you think the Geely’s extended-range hybrid system is what American shoppers want? Let us know in the comments!

Eleven years ago, I bought a Geely gasoline car in China for $9,000. It's a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine. In eleven years, it has driven 100,000 kilometers, and guess what? It has never disappointed me. My dad is still driving it now. Apart from the slightly poor sound insulation, it's still excellent for daily family use. Haha.😂😂😂

I live in Australia and I own the PHEV EX5 EM-i / Starray EM-i. An amazing car and incredible value. It makes the competition look like they are 10 years old and way over priced. Legacy brands are in the process of being demolished in the Australian market.

The extremely complient ride quality can be advertised as "American classic" land yacht.
