Wow, Google tripled the price of Flash. Now Flash has Pro pricing. That sucks.
Intelligence comparable to 3.1 Pro at 0.75x the price, 2 times the token speed but 2 times more token hungry. What's even the point? At least 3.1 Pro won't saturate the context window as fast. Google really dropped the ball with making an expensive Flash model
Some people online say that Gemini 3.5 Flash has GPT-4 level intelligence. In my experience working on a project right now using just a Google AI One Pro subscription, it's not always about using the strongest model like Gemini 3.1 Pro. I've been using the Flash model for specific tasks, including generating text over data results and building complete LaTeX PDFs with highly strict layouts. This morning in Antigravity, it was still the older Flash version (3.0, I think), but now it’s been upgraded to Flash 3.5. I can definitely say it handles this specific task much better than version 3.0. Before, it would take me about three iterations of corrections to get the right output, but this new model nailed it in just a single prompt. The improvements are definitely there! I just hope that with the Pro subscription, the Flash model remains practically impossible to run out of tokens.
The pricing is very high. I don't think this moves the needle. It's basically pro light.
Hopefully it is actually usable for dev workflows
