Can Labour be Saved?
Why Labour Will Fail If It Ignores Wealth Inequality
Discover the structural intellectual failings preventing Labour and other mainstream parties from addressing the core driver of falling living standards: wealth inequality.
Short Summary
- Identify the global economic crisis as rooted in structural wealth inequality, not short-term luck or external factors.
- Analyze specific intellectual and class-based barriers preventing political elites from accepting necessary policies like wealth taxation.
- Determine pathways for advocates to shift the debate from partisan ideology to undeniable economic necessity.
- Understand that failure to address distribution guarantees continued economic decline, regardless of which party holds power.
This discussion dissects why political elites remain insulated ("in a bubble") from the real economic pain driving public discontent globally. The host argues that deep-seated issues within academic economics and social class structures prevent current leaders from adopting wealth tax solutions, risking electoral failure against the far right.

To be fair, it's hard to stay polite with people who are intentionally running the economy into the ground for their own benefit.
Honestly, the Labour government seems to be running out of goodwill faster than anyone expected. People voted for change, but the economic reality hasn’t changed much. Inflation, taxes, and job insecurity are still crushing families. Feels like they inherited a mess, but the excuses are wearing thin.
We live in a neoliberal consensus, the broad consensus of western countries you talk about. Inequality is baked in to this. The only change is going to come from the ground up. You can’t “Save” these parties, governments. It’s not an “accident” or a “failure” in the governments eyes.
Gary I just want to tell you that you're doing great work, before discovering your channel I was so depressed about the future and the increasing inequality and lowering living standards. I am now doing my best studying politics, specifically trying to get into EU institutions to spread the message through these large international institutions. Keep working Gary, you're inspiring a whole generation of young fighters!
It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.
I think the politicians just dont know how to implement it without pissing off the entire establishment it's built on.
Haha, you just can't win with unconscious bias Gary!! I 'sound' posh (unintentional) when my background was starting work aged 15 doing an apprenticeship, (the first 3 females to be accepted in 1976), to many working for me (mostly male) assuming I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth when my Dad was on a 3-day week in the 70's as a sheet metal worker. You're not doing anything wrong Gary, keep going, keep going, we're with you all the way
The bubble theory is spot on Gary. I have seen it in my own family! People with money have fear of losing it! Those people struggling are more generous and willing to help others with little! Thank you for your ideas and opening up this minefield! x
There isn't a big enough voice like you to tell the truth. Thanks for the change youre making, your words are manifestations
