Security guarantees for Russia and Russian speaking citizens of Ukraine. Remember Maidan, Minsk1, Minsk2, Istanbul 2022.

The notion that Russia might even consider abandoning Slavyansk and Kramatorsk due to extreme pain for Ukrainian side is only a part and parcel of the unrealistic expectations of the West. Interestingly, that notion was FIRST presented here, by your guest, and linked with Russia's readiness to NOT take all of Kherson and Zaporozhya. As so many ppl pointed out, any sign of goodwill in negotiations with the West will be taken as weakness.

Western Europe is like a formerly princely family that has lost all its wealth but still has delusions on past glory.

Putin has defined what he means by security guarantees being required as a prelude to peace in Ukraine that would make a peace agreement unnecessary. He laid this out in his 2021 Security Treaty for Europe and he referred to it again to those who listened carefully in his press conference in Alaska when he referred to removing the root causes of the problem which is NATO and US policy.

They were talking about security guarantee for Ukraine not security guarantee for Russia.
