It's certainly a movie that has stood the test of time and it's one of the standouts of the decade. In this video we'll be going over the plot and also our interpretation of it and because of this there will be heavy spoilers. If you enjoy the video then please smash the thumbs up button and don't forget to subscribe for breakdowns like this every day. With that out the way, thanks for clicking this, now let's get into Candyman. Ok so Candyman is based on Clive Barker's short story 'The Forbidden.' Candyman spawned a massive franchise and this has led to a new film by Nia Di Costa and Jordan Peele. A book by Barker actually appears at one point in the movie and it's nice that they gave a nod to the source material even if the story is pretty changed up from it. How we got to this point is quite an interesting one and just incase you need a quick catch up on the first film I thought I'd give a quick run down to jog everyone's memories as they do play into this film. Timecodes will be linked below if you wanna skip ahead but I'll try and keep this short and sweets. We began in Chicago with Helen Lyle who learned about the Candyman legend when researching the Cabrini Green Housing project. In the movie we learned that Candyman was born in the 1800s and he became a famous artists. He was hired by several wealthy white families and he ended up falling in love with the daughter of one of these. They ended up falling in love and after she fell pregnant her father sent a mob after him. They cut off his hand and poured honey over him in order to attract bees that swarmed his body. In front of a crowd they set him alight and his ashes were scattered across where Cabrini Green would be created. Helen discovered that if you said the name Candyman into a mirror five times that the spirit of the Candyman would appear and murder you. Candyman's power can very much be taken away depending on whether people talked about him or if they ignored him which is a theme that plays heavily into this movie. Initially he was thought to be a legend used to cope with the pain that had been inflicted on black people by whites but Helen quickly discovered that there was more to it than that. ► Artist Attribution Music By: "KaizanBlu" Track Name: "Take Me With You" • Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/kaizanblu/ • SoundCloud - https://soundcloud.com/kaizanblu/ • Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/kaizanblumusic/ • TikTok - @kaizanblu http://vm.tiktok.com/aCYwfx/ • YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUtx... • DOWNLOAD @ https://www.chilloutmedia.com/kaizanblu Licence: Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) - Full licence here: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/... • Music released by: Chill Out Records @ https://goo.gl/fh3rEJ & https://www.LoFi-HipHop.com

The young boy’s reflection in the cop car, as part of candyman, represented George Stinney not Emmett Till. George (age 14) was unjustly executed by the state of South Carolina in 1944.

The little boy candyman represents George Stinney Jr who was a 11 year old boy wrongfully accused and executed by an all white jury being the youngest person executed in the country. The other candyman that was taken from his home and dragged from a truck represents James Byrd Jr. an Black man who was murdered by white supremacist in Texas where he was dragged for 3 miles from their pickup truck. The movie was brilliant to foreshadow these tragedies that have been overlooked by mass media as if it never happened.

I feel like candyman represents the darkness/vengeance that dwells in everyone that gets beaten down (physically and/or emotionally) by society and when one can't take it anymore, he gets unleashed. *That's how i interpret it anyway*

I feel like the only thing wrong with the film was not enough development with Breanna and Anthony's relationship with his mother, and William Burke's main reason why he wanted to turn Candyman from a thing of black pain to vengeance. Also wish it had more slasher elements like the first. Was shot well and the score was really good. And i wish we had more Tony but i get it.. that's a hard torch to carry and we didn't want to compare Candyman's so this was done well

I always love how self-aware you are about handling unique and foreign topics such as racial tension, identify, and generational trauma. Most people either ignore this completely out of fear of getting something wrong or they don't care. You genuinely do your research and ask for feedback and additional insight. I wish more Americans would be as open minded as you.

Let's just be honest here. We all wanted Tony Todd to be the main star of this movie as he had been in the other three versions. Tony is a legend and that spooky yet mellifluous voice and regal presence he has is just something that the other actors cannot duplicate.
