On a side note, I have to say that Rosemund Pike is a disturbingly underrated actress. I'm not saying she hasn't had good roles, but her acting chops and her natural beauty have never been fully realized in a movie.
No way!!! I just read the book and watch the movie for the first time this week! 😮 Perfect timing Heavy Spoilers ❤❤
One of the few movies that lived up to the book! I usually read the book first and prefer to get the author's full perspective before getting a limited view from the movie but for Gone Girl I wish I'd had the chance to watch the movie first without knowing what was going to happen. Fincher has a history of improving on the source material
No, Amy doesn't see life as a fairytale. She sees it as playing a role to get what you want/need. She played a role for her parents and accepts she needs to do it in marriage. That's why she gets angry, Nick isn't playing his role.
This is some analysis I thought of; Amy isn't obsessed with the idea of perfection, but she actually desires people who lie to make themselves appear better, because that's what she learned from her parents with Amazing Amy. Amy's relationship with Nick began when he (self admittedly) lied to make himself appear better, after some time when he drops the charade and Amy starts to see his true self, she begins to hate him, and their relationship together crumbles. Nick throughout the movie is shown as trying to be nice and polite, often foolishly, and to his own detriment. When his back is against the wall, he goes on TV to do the interview, and lies to the public to improve his image. Ironically, I recall Tyler Perry's character saying how the public loves someone going on TV and admitting they are an asshole. Nick being honest constantly screws him over, but the one time he decides to lie, and it works out. When Amy watches the interview, she seemingly becomes enamored with him once again when she sees him be fake, the same way she does. There are in my opinion lots of great and subtle lines in this movie; when Amy returns home and Nick closes the door when they are both inside, he says "You can stop pretending now." Amy then says "I'm not pretending, you were perfect[...]" Nick says "You do know I was just telling you what you wanted hear, right?" Amy finally says "That's how well you know me." I love that last line, because my initial interpretation of it is that she is saying that Nick is only able to lie that well because he truly knows her, but what I later come to really think is that him lying to her is what she really loves, she fell in love with him again because he was able to lie like he did at the beginning of their relationship. Another interesting thing is that they almost swap places at the end of the film, she is able to be herself, describing exactly how he should act in front of cameras, and blatantly blackmailing and extorting him, but Nick was attempting to just go along with it, so he was playing along while trying to think of a way to get away from her.
I don't think Dezzy was trying to blackmail Amy by telling her about the cameras in his house. He was informing her of them thinking she will feel protected and safe but Amy sees them as threats since it's evidence that can be used against her.
The opening scene, Amy Dunne looks up at Nicholas Dunne. The ending scene, Amy Dunne looks up at the audience. That David Fincher, he is a sneaky one! 🤔🤨

It's worth mentioning that Scott Peterson never reported Laci missing. Her stepfather did.
When i used to have to commute to work and sit in my car for 2 hours every day- i got into audiobooks and this book was one that i listened to. And in the middle of the book when they reveal that Amy is alive and on the run, setting the whole thing up- i remember i was in my car SCREAMING "NO FUCKING WAY OMG WHAAAAAA??" That i did NOT see coming and it was done so well, better than the movie even. It was awesome!
