Back in the day, Mr. Incredible used to wear a blue supersuit…possibly as a nod to the patriarch of the Fantastic Four Mr. Fantastic…whose name Mr. Incredible is parodied off of. The entire Incredibles Family is, of course, loosely based off of Marvel’s Fantastic Four…but with a few changes. Elastigirl has Mr. Fantastic’s stretchiness while Mr. Incredible possesses the strength of The Thing. And of course, Violet has the powers of the Invisible Woman. Dash’s superspeed is the only powerset that isn’t related to Marvel’s first family BUT I definitely feel like Dash’s design and personality was for sure inspired by Johnny Storm in some way…especially with how he lovingly teases his sister like Johnny would with Ben Grimm. During the superhero interviews at the beginning of the movie, Mr. Incredible laments about how he wants the world to stop being in peril and to just stay saved for a while so he can have a bit of a break…but that would, of course, prove to be a bit of a lie because Bob would eventually long for the days of superheroing once the act became illegal. Mr. Incredible’s sense of self worth is tied to him fighting criminals as a superhero…so, in a way, Mr. Incredible doesn’t actually want the world to become a supervillain-free paradise.
