To me the ending was so obvious. The women stopped and looked right at the house saying that they're going to check in there for her daughter. You could also hear them yelling for her outside the house before she went into the bunker. It's very quiet, but she stopped because she heard it. And the men said they had to find the bunker immediately, so they were clearly on their way to that house. I think it's evident that all of them are going to meet at the bunker... and eat all of that problematic food in the basement for years to come 😩
For me, the movie reminds me of how much we rely on technology. Without it, ships and planes crashing, computers going haywire, instant communications disabled with no cell phone, TV, radio, or internet services, being lost without GPS services, etc. It will be survival of the fittest, prepared for unthinkable events. I think we rely too heavily on technology in this day and age.
Isn't it ironic that we're obsessed with figuring out the end of the movie, just as Rose in the film was obsessed with figuring out the end of Friends, yet missing the crux of the matter? It's amazing that no one has noticed it so far. The directors did a good job. The end of the movie is ultimately a mirror of our reality.
I'm I the only one who interpreted it as not the end of the world, but more so the end of the USA?
The movie is NOT about the end of the world, it's about the collapse of the United States! The ending of the movie being the young girl watching Friends is a nod to the "good old days" of the 90s, before 9/11 or the current chaos we are living through.
Rose states, “No one ever listens to me.” She pointed out the ship getting closer, and then she is leading the line of the family running for their lives. Furthermore, she is the first to see the cluster of deer and is dismissed when she tries to tell them about the incident. Finally, she notices the Thorn house and says that they should go there. In the end, she knows ‘no one listens to her’ and decides to embark on her own. She leads the way again, and her reward is that she sees the finale - much as she has seen the ‘finale’ (the fall of the country) all along.
This movie was like a big episode of the Twilight Zone. And it was full of Easter eggs and wide open to interpretation.
The scariest thing about this movie is that it is realistic (to a point). The fact that this kind of government toppling could genuinely happen over a weekend is bone chilling.

I believe that another way to think about the use of the color blue in relation to safety is that blue light is often emitted from media screens, our phones and TV's, which we often find comfort in on a daily basis. The whole premise of the movie was that we lose connection to those devices, or our outlets of comfort. The entire movie Rose was trying to get back to her media comfort and was able to find it in the end. It can be a metaphor how we have lost touch with the natural world and only find comfort in our devices. It's even interesting to see how Rose was happy watching Friends, while the whole country is in chaos--Screens over reality.
