The fact that Kate fell for Joe, who is actually exactly like her father (same obsession with "protecting" their beloved via literally murdering everyone who gets in the way) is so psychological; they say: girls tend to pick husbands based on their fathers, I guess, that applies here perfectly
The biggest twist of this season for me was when Marienne was in the cage, I for real thought she left. Before, I thought it was really stupid for the creators to give Tati Gabrielle “main cast” status this season when she was only in one episode and had no involvement in this season. They sure had me fooled 😭
Is nobody talking about the Actor who played Rhys because he KILLED it
Did you notice how this season we were not shown Joe's child backstory at all? There wasn't even one flashback to the times, when he was a kid or worked for Mr. Moony; I think it was a very intentional decision from the writers team — it's time that we understand, that Joe is not a hurt by life kid, who needs our sympathy, but real life monster, who needs to be punished for his actions
all opinions about the exaggerated plot aside, Penn Badgley is such a great actor! i hope he keeps getting more such work and not get locked in the image of Joe for too long!
The part of the ending I find the craziest is that Joe seems to have lost his ability to have compassion, one of his only redeeming traits. How he framed Nadia is something the “old” Joe would never do. This new version of Joe embracing his dark side is ice cold. For example how he couldn’t frame that guy once he knew he was going to get help, he felt too guilty. I liked the depth of his character when he had morals, but I also see what everyone is saying about how we are seeing him for the monster he is. I’ll be interested to see how season 5 goes.
Was anyone else happy that Phoebe got a perfect happy ending? That poor girl deserved it more than anyone.
Penn Badgley always at the height of his performance. respect for the actor who plays Rhys in tandem with Joe. a big crush on the performance of Tati Gabrielle (Marianne) in the cage. I went through all the emotions imaginable. congratulations to the actress who plays Nadia. they are the best characters in S4. respect for their work
In my opinion, the entire message of "You" is just commentary on how we, as an audience, would root for a monster as long as they are given enough "human" traits for us to feel for them. It's a socio-political satire about the duality of people, that even seemingly kind people can be monstrous and vice versa. This is one of my favorite shows of all time simply because of how fantastically well-written Joe is, despite how at times, the plot of his story can very much seem too convenient and cliche. The ending of this season can work as an actual finale, or a set up for season 5. Either way, Joe Goldberg is a fascinating fictional character that I think deserves to be talked about a lot more.
