This and "When The Giants Roamed" were my absolute favorites as a kid. No nonsense, no fluff, no sensationalism, just a good old-fashioned historical documentary. I miss shows like this!
One of the best episodes of Trains Unlimited in high quality. Let's go!
My father’s dad was a fireman on a locomotive back in the early 1910’s. He was killed in 1915 in an accident where they crashed into a standing freight train. My wife bought me O. Winston Links’s book of steam engine pictures tacked at night. The book is Steam and Starlight, the photos are magnificent.
Trains Unlimited was underrated series on History Channel. This episode and the train Disasters episodes are my favorite.
RIP to Bill Withuhn, Bob Patterson, Bob Hutchinson, Seth Corwin, Bob Kreiger, O Winston Link, Joe Tully, and Thomas Shore.
I do have the DVD for this episode and this definitely brings back memories. When the History Channel was THE History Channel.
I live a half hour from the Historic Stratsburg Railroad in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. In 2014 they helped with the restoration of Union Pacific 4014 Big Boy which has tours the western US in the summer since 2019. What an amazing machine.
Hearing a REAL Human Voice on Youtube videos is a Great thing to Hear. Thanks Kevin Michael Richardson. Real narration is becoming a lost art with Robot narration.
And now the Big Boy 4014 has been reborn reclaiming her title as the world's largest and heaviest steam locomotive ever built in the Whole Entire World
