The situation leading up to the liberation of Paris in 1944 is chronicled in the book "Is Paris Burning?" (French version published in 1964 by French publisher Éditions Robert Laffont and the well known English version was published in 1965 by Penguin Random House) written by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre, with a movie adaptation in 1966. Lapierre and Collins would go on to write Freedom at Midnight: How Britain Gave Away an Empire in 1975, about the events surrounding the Indian independence movement and partition, detailing the last year of the British Raj, from 1947 to 1948 (starting from with the appointment of Lord Mountbatten of Burma as the last viceroy of British India, and ending with the death and funeral of Mahatma Gandhi).
