They don’t want paid maternal leave because they don’t want women to work. They don’t want women to have resources so that they can’t leave abusive/oppressive relationships. One of the early things my husband told me was that he wanted me to have an education and a career - it was peace of mind for him that I could take care of/provide for myself and our future children should anything happen to him. He’s always supported my goals, career and personal. He also took the first month off post each our kids’ birth so that he could help out and bond with them. Other people criticized him for taking time off to be with us. He didn’t care or listen to them.
