The Penn State - Pitt rivalry ended in 1992. I still miss that annual rivalry game.

Same goes for NFL, I’d rather watch an intense in the same division game other some random wild card match up

As a young boy, I was at the Cal-Stanford game of 1982 ("The Play"), and yes, there is something special about rivalry games.

Miami vs Fsu in the 80s & 90s was the reason I became a Miami fan from California. That rivalry was it growing up

Michigan vs Ohio State is the biggest rivalry in all of sports, which makes perfect sense because its the only one that started with a war.

Very good segment

This is high school but it proves the point. In the Northside and Warner Robins rivalry (central Georgia), they would play the last game of the season. As the only two high schools, city bragging rights would be at stake. Everyone was wearing blue and orange or red and black. Businesses would close early and nearly the whole town would turn out on Friday night. The stadium held 20K and it would be full, with more people lining the fences and slopes in the end zones. The atmosphere would be electric. Now and then, game day would fall on Halloween which added a new level of craziness to the rivalry. Occasionally the teams would meet again the following week in the playoffs. Half the stadium would be empty.

Cedar Point is where the rivalry is alive. Every kid in Michigan grew up taking a trip there every summer. And your surrounded by Ohioans, and sometimes you have wait hours in line to go on a roller coaster. The whole time you feel like they know you're a Michigan fan, even if your not wearing any maize and blue.

You hit it dude! I would watch a rivalry game over a playoff game any day. Good focus for this fall!
