A growing resistance movement is slowly emerging and it will have it third major “No Kings” rally on Saturday, March 28th. In this episode of Legal AF, Ray Brescia speaks with a Pulitzer-prize winning journalist and author and a labor organizer on the lessons today’s anti-Trump resistance can learn from the Civil Rights Movement of the last century and other efforts to advance social change.  Thomas Ricks, a war correspondent and historian, discusses his 2022 book Waging a Good War: A Military History of the Civil Rights Movement, 1954-1968, in which he analyzes the fight against Jim Crow through a tactical military lens. He argues that the civil rights movement succeeded by functioning like a nonviolent army, relying heavily on strict training, strategic planning, and unyielding discipline to achieve its victories. In addition, Kurt Petersen, the tenacious co-president of UNITE HERE Local 11, a union representing over 32,000 hospitality workers across Southern California and Arizona, discusses the effort to launch and win one of the largest hotel workers' strike in United States history, one which ultimately secured a transformative contract that included an immediate $5 hourly pay raise for his members.
