Description

Anthony Davis reports on the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down much of Donald Trump’s tariff regime as an unlawful overreach, which has sent a blunt message abroad: US trade policy can swing wildly — and collapse — on the basis of one man’s legal improvisation. For Europe, the ruling reinforced a lesson already learned the hard way. After months of negotiating concessions to avoid punitive tariffs, EU officials now face the reality that agreements painstakingly crafted with Washington may rest on unstable legal ground. The response in Brussels has been pragmatic and strategic: accelerate internal economic integration, expand trade pacts with Asia and Latin America, and reduce structural dependence on the US market. Rather than remain hostage to America’s domestic turbulence, Europe appears increasingly inclined to hedge its bets — and, if necessary, go it alone. The GDP of Japan is just 4.46 trillion, investing 500 billion into the U.S. is ludicrous. I believe there was an article stating that Sanae Takaichi said that no money is actually going to the US. It was a fake deal.
