Trump DOJ FALLS APART in Court

Attorneys Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian break down Judge Jeffrey Bryan's seven-hour contempt hearing in Minnesota over the DOJ's handling of 28 immigrants who were detained during Operation Metro Surge, ordered released, and then put back on the street without their personal property — cash, IDs, passports, phones, clothing, jewelry. The court ordered the property returned by February 25. The government didn't comply. In two cases, the U.S. Attorney's office admitted the property was simply lost. During the hearing, U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen accused the judge of "smearing" him — a risky move the hosts say either enrages the judge or forces him to bend over backwards to appear impartial, but never actually helps. Judge Bryan said he doesn't want to hold anyone in contempt but hasn't taken criminal contempt off the table, calling it "a historic low point" he hopes to avoid. Some cases were resolved during breaks in the hearing, but several remain open with property still missing. The attorneys connect it to the broader pattern — Chief Judge Schiltz has documented 210 violations across 143 cases in the same district — and argue Minnesota was a strategic miscalculation by the administration, which expected Republican support for targeting Somali immigrants but instead got a unified humanitarian response across party lines.
