Description

Today Nick Hamman @HammyEats is taking us on an Ultimate South African fast food and street food tour in Johannesburg to eat some of the most unique and tastiest food in the city. Here's everything we ate: Solly’s Corner (https://maps.app.goo.gl/is621b5sfezL12XT7) - This is an original South African fast food known for parcels. So Nick and I dug into an Original Fish and Chips Parcel, a Masala Steak Parcel, and not forgetting the Nick Hamman Burger! Harry’s Café (https://maps.app.goo.gl/gwTLG7ocbQrFJafZ8) - Next up to Oriental Plaza and to try the legendary Toasted Mutton Sandwich. Al Hamra (https://maps.app.goo.gl/CQb3WWBzcsrShUEo9) - Continuing with out South African street food tour and we’re trying the Extra Spicy Chicken Tikka. Chip Shop (https://maps.app.goo.gl/TWGXAduLrq77FQbr5) - You can’t eat the most unique South African fast food without trying a Steak Rounder. Rogerios - Next up we headed to Alexandra Township to meet up with Regerio and taste his Mozambican style Lemon Herb Chicken and Spicy Peri Peri Chicken. The Hot Pot Kitchen (https://maps.app.goo.gl/yghAvjApChduRe556) - At this amazing food stall you’ll find unique South African food like Mopane Worms / Mashonzha, Cow Heel / Amanqina, and always Chakalaka. Half Clutch (https://maps.app.goo.gl/RSz76Y4owpcQVcnn8) - This South African side of the road restaurant cooks everything over fire and we tried Cow Head / Nyama Inklothko, Meaty Bones, and their delicious Beef Tripe & Intestines / Mogodu. That was an ultimate South African food tour! I want every non-South African watching this, see a white dude taking Mark through Jozi. And I want you to see the comments from Black South Africans on this video. There are two things that truly unite South Africans, it is our sport, and our food. There is only love - and our country has heaps to give. Forget the interplay of politics. Granted, you get your few that are just flat out haters that refuse to share a meal or eat multicultural dishes. But believe me, the majority enjoys breaking bread with another culture. Nick is enjoyed by black, white, Muslim, Christian, et al. I hope you get to go to the Cape and have some Cape Malay food - but also the Afrikaans versions of similar dishes - like Snoek and the like. Thank you for coming, Mark. I pray your stay is a good one.

Legend has it that Mr Adbul's beard turned orange over the years from all the tikka masala vapors coming off the grill. What dedication to his craft

As a South African Aussie who haven’t been to South Africa since before the pandemic, this made me very happy!! I remember going to Fordsburg every Friday night with my family for the market and dinner as a child and eating our way around Joburg when we lived in Pretoria when I was a kid. In saying this, my foodie heart will always be in Durban cause I was born there. I hope Mark goes to Durban next!
