This is actually my first time visiting Qatar (apart from flying through the airport), so I was very excited to explore this Gulf country located in the Arabian Peninsula. Fahad planned a big first day where we drove outside of Doha to the farm of Hamad who treated us to big a surprise! Fahad has an entire farm where he raises champion Arabian horses and racing dogs, and then raises sheep and lambs. He chose a lamb and the main event was a whole lamb marinated in saffron, then cooked underground mandi style. Secondly Hamad surprised us with an entire private shawarma - Hamad is a huge lover of shawarma and has collected recipes from all over the middle east. He marinated the lamb in oranges and lots of nutmeg and cardamom. The result was meat that was ultra fragrant, buzzing with nutmeg and unbelievably tasty. But before we ate we went on a full tour of a farm, saw animals, and were treated to the most amazing Arabian horse show I’ve ever seen - these are champion show horses and the best in the world. They were the most spectacular horses I’ve ever seen. When we finished we headed back to Hamad’s farm where the feast began and he invited some friends over to celebrate with all the amazing food.
