I Looked Into Why Restaurant Quality Is Declining. What I Found Is SHOCKING
Investigating the Core Reasons for Chain Restaurant Quality Collapse
Discover the surprising, non-capitalist reasons why nearly all chain restaurant food tastes the same and is declining in quality. This deep dive identifies two major structural culprits dominating the supply chain, moving beyond common media narratives about finance.
Short Summary
- Pinpoint executive apathy, shown through examples like Cracker Barrel abandoning fresh biscuits for frozen reheats.
- Recognize that supply chain consolidation, specifically via companies like Laprino Foods and Cisco, enforces consistency over quality.
- Understand that private equity often acquires already struggling brands, complicating narratives about intentional destruction.
- Note the significant shift in workforce demographics toward substance abusers, impacting front-line quality control.
This exploration debunks the simplistic argument blaming capitalism alone for the taste degradation felt across the food industry. We focus instead on market control exerted by ingredient monopolies and operational centralization, providing context for why consumer choices alone have not reversed the trend.

We quit eating out and now noticing everything at grocery store product quality decline as well. We are getting squeezed
I am 77 years old and I can say without question the quality of life has deteriorated beyond measure. Consumer goods are trash, restaurant food slop and people meaner than ever.
That pandemic shutdown destroyed small family owned restaurants and left us at the mercy of chain restaurants. What a coincidence !
I’m a restaurant owner and have had to resort to picking up all of my own produce and probably 50 % of the cheese and meats because I can’t trust the quality of the suppliers for certain items . It’s actually cheaper for me to do this but takes up about 10 extra hours a week of my time. Most probably aren’t willing to do this
It's called "Shitification". The decline of goods and services.
food quality, portion size and customer service has hit rock bottom all while prices have skyrocketed. Cheaper to buy your own stuff and prepare your own meals.
I’m not paying $60 for someone to microwave my food. Please bring back quality cooks and chefs. Instead of the prepackaged reheat.
Sysco also provided food for my school district when I was a kid. It all makes sense when you realize almost everything at restaurants is just cafeteria food.
Unhinged greed is behind everything that is wrong with our nation and planet. 5 times the cost at 1/5 the quality.
90% of ER visits is Abdominal pain. Is there a connection?
