The Truth About Slavery Your History Class Didn’t Teach You
Deconstructing the Narrative: US Slavery Compared to Global Historical Precedent
Understand why the standard American history narrative about slavery may be incomplete by examining its universal context and comparing US duration and nature against global institutions.
Short Summary
- Establish slavery as a near-universal human institution prevalent across thousands of years and continents.
- Quantify the US experience, highlighting that American slavery lasted significantly less time than many other cultures practiced it.
- Note the strong emotional and intellectual resistance encountered when presenting this broader historical context in modern media.
This discussion analyzes reactions to President Trump's proposal to review Smithsonian exhibits, focusing on conservative commentator Jillian Michaels' arguments against centering American slavery purely on unique white supremacy. The content stresses learning fundamental facts about human history rather than accepting inherited guilt narratives.

I love how being black somehow makes someone an expert on the history of slavery
My family can trace their lineage back to the Makenzie clan of Scotland and they settled in the Blue Ridge. No one in my family owned a slave. They couldn't even afford a donkey. I refuse to apologize for something that my family or myself ever took part in.
I’m blown away that people have become victims of something that did not happen to them.
Victims always need a bad guy to maintain the victim stance. Very sickening
Notice how they talk over her so she can’t get her point across. Those people are evil.
They're always upset about those who were purchasing slaves but ignore those who were selling them.
They are afraid to let her speak
ikr. _Some_ people seem to believe that America *invented* slavery.
We need to make teachers, teach the truth about our history in this country.
People look dumbfounded when they are dumb!
