I appreciate you highlighting this story. I'm part of a non-profit that brings in retired racehorses and gives them a quiet peaceful living for the rest of their lives -- and many are part of a therapy program such as for children who have PTSD. Thoroughbreds are unique in their personalities and devotions. They make wonderful therapy horses for people. We ourselves have a retired racehorse that ran 60 races at Emerald Downs, which is small, near Seattle. I really am happy for the trainer Cherie DeVaux. I watched a video after the race of Cherie and Golden Tempo, and I can tell you that horse adores her as she does him. They were so sweet together. The race was so exciting and her reactions so genuine. And I was glad to see they didn't take a chance racing the horse that reared up and went over backwards. The horseracing world has been making strives in protecting horses.
A wonderful splash of sunshine in this dark and troubled world...
Always a sucker for a good horse story. This one's terrific on multiple levels. Secretariat wasn't a horse, he was a machine.
One of the most incredible finishes in its history! Worth tearing up over the whole story in its entirety!
I get teary-eyed, too, every time I see Golden Tempo beat those incredible odds. Unbelievable!
It was an amazing day! I love that he was a long shot and while Cherie doesn’t want to make it about her being a female trainer, it’s still pretty awesome!
It was an AMAZING race!!!! It really had everything — a massive longshot winner, a historic first for women in the sport and two brothers going head-to-head at the finish. Definitely one for the history books!
Megyn, you didn't even mention DeVaux's interview in the winner's circle when she said her husband was the reason she was there - that he believed in her 9 years ago when she didn't herself. It was an amazing interview.
