I don’t think there’s anything wrong w JD and Trump. He doesn’t want anyone thinking about his replacement this early. When JD is asked, he doesn’t go there also. It’s way too early. I think Rubio wants it also, and yeah…Pete. I agree with your opinion. It’s mine as well. Trump’s playing it right. It’s kinda a gross question at this point in his term.

Good for him. Trump is saying he wants JD to prove himself first. And so far he's been doing a great job.

Can you imagine how hard the system would come down on JD if they thought trump had hand picked him at this point

The answer was (and should have been) “we aren’t even two months into this term and you want me to comment on the next one? We have done more so far than any other president but we have a long way to go to undo the mess made by the last regime. I don’t have time to think about the next term.”

There’s no way Trump could endorse JD with only 4 weeks into the Presidency. Also he can’t endorse anyone at this point. As you said Trump needs to stay impartial and keep everyone motivated.
