Sad this is happening with every business. We use to have small family farms. Family restaurants. Family stores, family repair stores. Family vet. Now everything is going corporate. You even see it happening in the rentals now where corporations will cut out the small mom and pop landlords.
Normally, I am pro business and investment, but there is something inherently wrong when someone’s health is reduced to a stock portfolio.
Something you neglected to mention that is also driving the physician shortage, and nurse shortage for that matter, when private equity purchases these medical groups and tries to optimize efficiency and cut waste, it’s usually at the expense of quality of life for these providers. Therefore, we see increase burnout they quit leave or retire, and that further contributes to the shortage.
Thank you, for explaining how private equity is involved with healthcare. As a nurse, this is the worst thing that happened in healthcare. They are always cutting the quality of care for the patients. Then on top of that is health insurance companies. Also making it more difficult for the patients. This is making us healthcare workers becoming burnout and leaving healthcare. So sad and its going to get worse.
Thank you for covering this topic Jaspreet. I work for a plumbing company, it used to be a great job and was family owned. About a year ago it was gobbled up by a private equity firm. The first thing they did was jack up our prices through the roof, and now everyone know us as the most expensive company in town. They also changed our health insurance and fired our old manager. Several employees have quit, I have a feeling I'm going to be next..
Private equity firms would just find an MD to use as a straw purchaser. Paying to use their certification for profit.
Strange. Just watched The Big Short last night. Scary!
Morning yall ☕️
