During the 1990s I attended a Siggraph Convention for computer animators - very enjoyable. Most there were young people excited about CGI etc. But there was this one booth, by Sony, where two Japanese scientists were wearing white scientific coats - they could not speak any english, who were demonstrating wearable glasses. When they observed me being interested, they encouraged me (using physical movement - not by speaking...) to try on a pair. And I was STUNNED!!! The glasses were crystal clear, and I could see a computer screen right in front of my eyes in incredible clarity. I could also manipulate a 'mouse' on the screen. Again, everything was soooo crystal clear! I handed back the glasses to these two Sony scientists wearing white science coats. They smiled at me. And I've been looking for these glasses being available on the market ever since. That was back in the 1990s. It's now 2024.

I love my xreal glasses. I've watched your videos while mowing the lawn. I've also used them to cook, having my recipe in front of my eyes while cooking.

This is pretty incredible to be honest. It feels like we're seeing the first iteration of the next personal computing device. Like how the first "mobile" phone was a suitcase. Or the first laptop was a 11kg backpack. In my opinion the Meta Ray Bans has nailed the form factor, but completely lacks the cisual AR aspect while the Ray Neo glasses is the closest to what I think most people want functionality wise but in a pretty clunky form factor. My intuition is that with how power efficient recent lightweight devices has become (for example the new M4 is so powerful that they had to take significant steps to not make the iPad a direct Macbook competitor), we're going to see the capabilities of the Ray Neo in much better form factors within a year or two. And the world will never look the same.

Almost 2/3 of adults wear prescription glasses. Until these things easily support prescription lenses, the market will remain small.

I could see AI glasses replacing hearing aids. Most hearing aids suck when you're in a noisy talkative crowd. If you had a pair of glasses with a camera, an AR screen on the lens for displaying text, and an AI model trained to read lips, that could come in really handy.

The best thing about the Ray-Ban Meta glasses is that they don't look like tech. Things that look like tech weird your average person out. People were rightfully creeped out by Google Glass, but the Meta glasses look fantastic. So far I've only had one person notice that there was anything different with my glasses.
