Please do a deep dive on Perplexity API!
I bought a 'Lead magnet' for $1. A week later they charged me $99 for some upgrade I didn't want. Refused me a refund - offered a discount for 'Changing my mind'. Bank not a lot of use, so I asked Perplexity to research the law in their state. Sent them the answer - Laws broken, FTC law, case law, fines etc. They replied : Refund processing now". VERY happy me.
A video on how you use Perplexity for automation would be great!
"Go perplex it."
The discover page is pure gold for scientific oriented news
Totally agree, Perplexity's newsfeed is massively underrated. That's probably because it's so amazing at it's main job, AI-aided search.
I don't know what I would do without perplexity anymore. I use it to compare 2 products, get community sentiment on the "best" product for something, find alternatives to products or programs that meet a specific requirement like free, how to pronounce an unusual word, point me step by step on how to change a setting in a new program, what are the CLI flags in a new program, how to learn/use a new program/app in general. very particular questions that are niche to a specific video game, learn new programming languages, convert/translate between programming languages. My dad uses it to scrape insurance policy and get insurance codes to get more things covered by insurance. It uses the most relevant/trusted sources to do it as well. Program documentation, video game wikis, health authorities, to get as accurate as it can and being an expert on the most niche things that other AI wouldn't understand. Even when it gets things wrong, because it gives you the sources, the correct answer can often be found in the sources it finds for you. And I'm only using the free version.
Be very wary of deep research. Used it for a bit, but then I decided to critically check and saw that it hallucinates a lot of the information, at least a lot in terms of providing quantities, stats, numbers, etc. Just a word of caution.
Getting your news from AI is still getting the same news filled with hyperbolic reporting, content marketing, and the fodder resulting from the hyper-monetization of news.
As someone with ADHD, Perplexity has been incredible. A couple years ago, I was talked into getting an Android instead of an IPHONE and quickly was overwhelmed by its presence in my world. It felt like every page was a room of a thousand little snake oil salesmen I had to keep an I on. I switched back to an IPHONE days later. Perplexity has been the web search version of that breakup. I love being able to engaged information without the sales pitch. It's like having Encyclopedia Britannica back! One day I'll use it for recipe ideas. The next looking into current research for treating chronic illness or locating doctors.
