Parent Opinion: I grew up in a Kelce-like household with the rule of not getting up from the table until the food is gone... here's the thing, that did not make me a better eater. That made me KNOW that I hate XYZ foods, for sure, and then I would only eat my favorite things. It wasn't until I got older and released this grip I had on finally controlling my own food that I learned that you can prepare/cook foods in many different ways and the foods I hated growing up were just seasoned wrong lol I think this practice just instilled a negative association with certain foods that took me many years to break free from. I don't know for sure if the other way is better, mind you, but I ask my kids to try everything and I ask them to keep the "this tastes disgusting" comments to themselves (informing them this is hurtful to the parents who cooked said meal). Hopefully, they will learn to try new things, accept when something isn't their jam, and be respectful to the cook -- that's my goal!
