Description

...'nuff said. Okay, no. Actually, I do have more to say about the first half. Specifically: JUSTICE FOR THE BUG MAN!! Seriously, I think these two episodes gave me reactor whiplash. For the entire first half, I felt myself rubbing against the grain. There was a major disconnect between me, the characters, and the central concept. I guess I'm just annoying, but I personally I don't think a man should be evicted for having dope hobbies and cool friends. Yet, the moment the second episode started, everything fell into place. The animation leveled up. Gramps actually mattered. And Vilgax LEFT THE TUBE. We had a villain!!! Un-Canned!! I felt like I understood this show better than ever and it left me incredibly pumped for the future. Definitely my fave finale since X-Men Evolution Season 2 (fans of the channel for a while will know that's HIGH praise). If the rest of the show delivers this quality (and doesn't pretend that Bug Dudes are the villains) I think we have something special on our hands.

Posting this before the video premiers: Vilgax was canned so long i forget what he originally looked like, and as a kid didn’t pick up on his clear artificial upgrades. His legs look like that because they’re biomechanical now, he was just a torso after the laser cannons got through with him.

13:16 believe it or not, there's a potential logical explanation here. There reason our bodies heat up when we get sick is to attempt kill off their infections, but Heatblast's species is so hot as is, anything that could infect them (or anything else on their homeworld, which too is very hot) is going to be extremely resistent to heat, so their bodies may have adapted to deal with the sicknesses by doing the opposite of ours: by freezing their bodies to a temperature so low, anything infecting them would struggle to survive. Also, about any of these sicknesses: keep in mind, the symptoms you're seeing could be the aliens' natural physiological responses to getting sick, rather than symptoms caused directly by the infections.

Quick notice: Ben still can't transform at will. That was just a bonus side-effect for this epiosde due to Vilgax screwing with the watch. It still works as it normally does going forward. Also, I won't say WHAT it is, but...something you brought up this episode WILL come up as a one-off in the future [Knowing smile] Quick thing about Diamondhead is that he's kind of an all rounder. He's strong, has range, is EXTREMELY durable, is kind of an earthbender, and yes: he's also the blade guy. Everyone DOES love FourArms but there's a reason Diamondhead is also at the top half of (most) everyone's list.

Fun Fact: The writer of the Season 1 finale, Marty Isenberg, wrote several episodes of X-Men: TAS (including Rogue's origin) and helped develop X-Men: Evolution.

If I'm not mistaken, Upgrade has to fuse with technology to then create proper constructs and basically any ...upgrade to it he wants. On his own, he's just malleable, vaguely strong and has energy beams.

the cover story is that he's a plumber. which isn't even technically a lie

It's funny to think that Vilgax becoming canned calamari for a while actually made him stronger than before. If he hadn't been blown up he wouldn't have been able to beat the shit out of Ben with pure brute force.

I love the reveal that Max Tennyson was basically the protagonist of his own show back in the day that we never got to see.

OG Vilgax remains one of my all-time favorite villains. Dude got one episode in the first season to establish himself as a credible threat after spending the whole show in a pod and his menace is off the charts.
