Good news for today: Warsaw, Poland has a water system that is controlled by mussels. Mussels are very good at filtering toxins out of water, but when the toxin load gets higher than they can handle, they shut their shells until the toxins subside. Warsaw has eight mussels working at a time, monitored by computer. If four close their shells, the water treatment plant stops the flow of water to protect people. After three months of service, the mussels are relocated to the wild to live out their lives and are replaced by a new shift.
