I could not care about heat up time, I would just turn it on earlier. all I need is a long runtime, high temperature, and its ability to keep that temperature in cold weather. I recommend the hot hands full size, (double size of regular) they have a run time of over 12 hours, and initially get so hot, you can't touch it. but once you go outside, it cools down just enough to keep your hands very warm. sometimes getting sweaty. open the package, shake it a bit, then leave it in a zipper pocket for about 15 min. your patience will be rewarded. if you put one in both your back pants pockets, BOOM instant seat warmer EVERYWHERE you sit.
