Fact: Chris Evans was growing the beard he sported in this movie while filming the legendary shawarma scene in The Avengers. If you look at that scene, you see him with his fist covering his cheek.
“They used up all their bullets four years ago in the last revolt.” I actually love this line because it implies that the sacrifices made by the men and women of the previous revolt helped this revolt take off. Like all the revolts have been building on each other. Every failed revolt helps the next one until eventually they succeed.
This was my introduction film to Bong Joon Ho. It was cool seeing Chris Evans in a different role, show his range and separate from the marvel hype at the time. 2nd Favorite film of 2013
Octavia Spencer is phenomenal. The fact that she can play in a movie like The Help or Hidden Figures, and then play a tough fighting mama in this movie is amazing.
This is the best Chris Evans performance I have ever seen. His monologue about knowing how babies taste had me in tears. The first time I saw it.
Love how Mason's speech about the "closed ecosystem" of the aquarium directly parallels how they maintain the train's population
Frankly the TV show is good but this movie god damn that's a masterpiece
Thank you for acknowledging how good Chris Evans is in this movie. He is a really good actor and actually has played against type more than you think. This is by far one of his best performances but he’s also really great in films like Punctured, Gifted, Defending Jacob (a miniseries) and even played a serial killer named Mr. Freezy in a film called The Iceman, no redeeming qualities about that character. And I don’t think his role as Steve Rogers should be taken lightly either, I think he’s brilliant in that role, especially in Endgame. And what I think is a testament to his performance in those films is he doesn’t talk as much as someone like Tony, it’s all more with his facial expressions and that’s harder to do

Something I appreciate about Bong Joon-ho is his critique of capitalism & neoliberalism within his films. With this one, acknowledging that sell outs exist within liberation movements whether thats because of loss of hope, belief that keeping the “machine” going will cause less violence & pain etc. & that its up to regular people to break away from the mold. Also Bong’s portrayal of the bourgeois class being so ignorant & never knowing the suffering of the poor.
