The sequence of Sammie singing and summoning the spirits from the past and future had my jaws open in IMAX
A nice touch for Remmick's death scene is his reaction to what's happening, he doesn't pull the stake out or run to try and get out of the sun, he finally gets to see the sun for the first time in possibly centuries and let's the sun set him free, amazing performance by Jack O'Connell
I can't believe they brought both Michael B. Jordan & Michael A. Jordan for this movie
The twins causing the issues between the Irish and Italian mobs in Chicago is a fun easter egg. Their hats even show which twin was dealing with each side.
"I dunno if I have seen an Asian person with a southern accent before" They existed. Delta Chinese. There are documentaries about them. They ran segregated grocery stores during Jim Crow just like that. Coogler did his research.
One thing I find really interesting about Sinners is Miles Canton, the actor who played Sammie. Not only is he said to have learned the guitar specifically for this movie, it’s his first film in any capacity. If you look in his movies and shows on google, Sinners is the only thing listed besides a broadcasted live performance. Imagine your film debut being the lead role in one of arguably the greatest films of the decade. It’s really impressive and definitely speaks to his talents.
I loved how the Choctow hunters saw the hood and that sun was going down and were like "Y'all have the day you deserve ✌️"
Ryan Coogler said he made this movie as a love letter to his late uncle, who would constantly listen to blues music he grew up on when he lived in Jim Crow era Mississippi while drinking Old Taylor Whiskey. After he passed away while Ryan Coogler was making Creed in 2015 he would play his uncle’s records as a way to connect with him almost like a musical séance. And that led the idea of this movie. And the best part is that Ryan got the legendary Buddy Guy, the greatest and most influential blues musician of the past century, to play older Sammy.
Aaron getting emotional in the summoning of the ancestors scene IS literally what it feels like to be black with pride. I weep for my ancestors
