Up until this movie, Leslie Neilson was known as a dramatic actor. People told him this could damage his career, but he'd always wanted to do comedy and spent the rest of his life doing just that. And now he's remembered as a beloved comedy star.
The big joke in the "I speak jive" scene is that woman is Barbara Billingsley, who played June Cleaver in the 50s and 69s sitcom Leave it to Beaver. She was the epitome of the white suburbian housewife at the time. A lot of the younger people watching this probably won't get that aspect of the bit.
The hidden joke is the sound of the propeller throughout the whole movie.. it's a jet plane lol
"Jim never has a 2nd cup of coffee at home"- was a 70's Yuban coffee commercial implying Jim hated wifes coffee ,but had a 2nd cup when someone else made it with Yuban 😊
Minor detail you missed: the inflatable autopilot is called Otto. Otto Pilot.
the "loading zone" couple arguing over the public address system were a) the real LAX announcers, and b) actually married.
There's an after credit scene of the guy still sitting in the Taxi at LAX.
Tupperware wasn't sold door-to-door, it was famously sold at "Tupperware Parties". Agents would invite friends and neighbours around and give 'em the hard sell over cheese dip. 😊
The guy washing the windshield of the plane is Jimmy Walker; JJ on Good Times.😊
