Roland Nukes Juelz Santana’s ‘Don’t Read’ Stupidity. That Ignorance Always Hurts Black Communities.
Roland Dismantles Anti-Literacy Stance: Literacy as Defense Against Exploitation
Stop dismissing reading as optional; literacy is the essential foundation protecting Black communities from financial exploitation and limiting their power.
Short Summary
- Expose anti-intellectualism that suggests literacy is unnecessary, proving it directly undermines financial security.
- Demonstrate how starting a business, understanding tax law, or validating contracts requires basic reading comprehension.
- Highlight historical precedents showing how illiteracy has been weaponized to disempower communities and how successful figures still rely on reading skills.
Roland Martin forcefully refutes the assertion that reading is unnecessary for success, especially when paired with a call for financial literacy. This segment exposes the dangerous paradox in claiming to value wealth creation while simultaneously advocating for mass illiteracy. Examine severe real-world examples, from athletes losing fortunes to the fundamental requirements of executing contemporary business contracts.

Enslaved people risked their lives to learn how to read. This is so disrespectful to their memory.
Stupid is as stupid does
I come from dirt poor poverty. Mother died young, my father had another family. Seen him 4 or 5 times. I knew very early that knowledge was power. I read 300 books, I received my masters in 1988. Reading improves your writing as well as your communication skills. I agree with Roland Martin.
Slave owners didn’t want slaves to read because they knew that this ability would give us POWER. Reading is FUNDAMENTAL to every path of success.
😮And folks wonder why most hip hop artists are broke before and after they fall off the charts, stage and perform platforms.
Anti-intellectualism is ruining us
Ignorance can be corrected, stupid is forever. So sad.
Hard to believe that we’re living in a world where people are advocating to be stupid and people are joyfully volunteering themselves to be so. Shame.
I'm 65. My parents couldn't read or write. But they made sure I went to school to learn how to read, write, add, subtract, multiply, and divide. And understand what I was reading! Miss them everyday! Just listening to these idiots talk says it all!!!
People who say you don't need to know how to read....don't know how to read.
