Enslaved people risked their lives to learn how to read. This is so disrespectful to their memory.

I come from dirt poor poverty. Mother died young, my father had another family. Seen him 4 or 5 times. I knew very early that knowledge was power. I read 300 books, I received my masters in 1988. Reading improves your writing as well as your communication skills. I agree with Roland Martin.

Slave owners didn’t want slaves to read because they knew that this ability would give us POWER. Reading is FUNDAMENTAL to every path of success.

Hard to believe that we’re living in a world where people are advocating to be stupid and people are joyfully volunteering themselves to be so. Shame.

I'm 65. My parents couldn't read or write. But they made sure I went to school to learn how to read, write, add, subtract, multiply, and divide. And understand what I was reading! Miss them everyday! Just listening to these idiots talk says it all!!!
