Mel’s story is wild, can’t wait for this episode!
Fun fact. The B-17 Bomber aircraft named "Hells angels" was inspired by the 1930 Howard Hughes aviation film Hell's Angels. It was suggested by one of the crew member noted that given their dangerous missions, "This is the closest to hell that angels will ever get!". The aircraft was piloted by Captain Irl E. Baldwin who he and his crew survived 25 bombing missions and they all had successful careers after the war either in service or outside the military.
I’ll never forget the time I was at a bar in Illinois in the early 2000’s and the Hell’s Angels walked through the doors. The whole packed bar went silent. Everyone moved out of their way. People gave up tables for them. They took control of the entire place basically. They came there to hang out, but people stepped out of their way. It was eerie. I was young and didn’t know anything about the hells angels. But I could feel this dark presence from them. I could feel this tension and fear in the air. A lot of people left. I stayed for a bit to understand more. They were definitely intimidating to everyone. That was my first and last experience with them, but a feeling I’ll never forget.
