Description

Neil deGrasse Tyson rowed crew?! Neil deGrasse Tyson and co-hosts Gary O’Reilly and Chuck Nice take a trip down memory lane as they explore the lessons of rowing with Arshay Cooper: coach, activist, and author of A Most Beautiful Thing. How do you fix accessibility in rowing? We sit down with Arshay Cooper to discuss how he brings rowing to new communities. What’s it like to coach the first all black high school team? We explore Arshay’s journey to become a rower and later a coach in the West side of Chicago. What lessons can be learned from rowing crew? Is it the ultimate team sport? How do you navigate an overwhelmingly white sport? Also discover Arshay’s philosophy on life and what lessons we can take into our lives off the water. Arshay sounds like an amazing guy. I’d love to see him back on the show so that he can detail his work of leaving communities better than he found them.

An inspiring story. The only bad thing about it being that we humans ever created a world where this story needs to be told in the first place. Dead right. Black or white (or anything in-between), we need to leave this boat house better than we found it, yeah?
